JUNE 8, 2009 -- In anticipation of a Downtown Networking Party at Wings Pizza N Things (co-sponsored by SanDiegoDTOWN.com), I went to the East Village to check it out. The bartender, Allie, chatted amiably… until the check dasher walked out the door. She excused herself, and within half a block, had nabbed him. Allie came back and resumed our conversation, satisfied, she said, that the bill bounder had made an honest mistake.
Wings Pizza N Things (wingssandiego.com) is practically in the evening shadows of Petco Park. WPNT is a non-corporate atmosphere, where Allie says it’s always packed pre-Padres games, and fills back up after Padres wins.
“We have some regulars who eat and drink here up until the first inning, and then go to the game,” says Allie. “And some come back during inning breaks, because our prices beat the ballpark.”
Tuesday night (June 9), SanDiegoDTOWN.com will co-host a party that starts at 6 p.m, the same time Game 3 of the NBA finals kicks off on TV. The deal: Buy one drink ($5 you-call-its) and the wings, pizza and salad is free until 8 p.m.
There are also a bevy of downtown-oriented raffle giveaways. Prizes include: one-month memberships to FIT athletic club, Padres tickets, gift baskets from Market 32, and gift certificates to Alpha Male, City Dog, Royal India, Karl Strauss, WPNT (of course) and the soon-to-be-opening Broken Yolk.
The night of the party, the Padres are in Los Angeles—but will be visible on WPNT flat-screens starting at 7 p.m.
(Wings Pizza N Things is located at 315 Tenth Avenue.)
